On May 7, the South Florida PGA Foundation had its 9th annual SFPGA Foundation Tire Kingdom Charity Pro-Am at Olde Florida Golf Club. Over $30,000 was raised at this event to support programs administered by the Foundation.
Each year this prestigious award recognizes the top golf professional having demonstrated superior skills in merchandising and the promotion of golf with a focus on inventory strength, skillful shop display, staff quality, and merchandising technique.
“This award is a great reflection on our membership and staff, in particular our Retail Manager Lynne Startzel. Lynne is one of the best retailers in the industry and I am proud to work with her and our staff to meet and exceed member expectations,” EJ said.
Lynne was previously the Retail Manager at Gulf Harbour Golf and Country Club and the Tiburon Golf Resort before joining Bonita Bay Club in 2010, she is a member of the Association of Golf Merchandisers.
E.J. McDonnell has received a number of PGA Awards including the 2008 Assistant of the Year, 2014 Bill Strausbaugh Award for promotion of the game and the PGA, and he was named the 2015 Professional of the Year.

Bonita Bay Club Fitness Professional, Steve Kois and Director of Golf, EJ McDonnell are headed to the Volvik World Long Drive Championship that begins tomorrow and runs through next Wednesday.
Steve has had a very good summer competing in WLD competitions and is currently ranked 41st in the World Rankings. He earned an exemption into the World Finals through local and regional qualifying in Memphis at the Bluff City Shootout. Steve had a great performance at the Bash for Cash tour event held just outside of Niagara Falls, Canada. He fell in the quarterfinals to eventual champion and current world #3, Justin James.
EJ has competed in a few events this summer and just missed earning an eemption into the World Finals while qualifying for the Bash for Cash in Canada. He made his way into the top 100 of the World Rankings for a couple of weeks and is currently ranked 108th. EJ will be competing in the last chance qualifier on Friday, hoping to earn one of 24 remaining spots in the field.
Live scoring begins tomorrow morning on the official World Long Drive website http://www.worldlongdrive.com and the final two nights will be televised live on the Golf Channel.
On July 10th and 11th, Bonita Bay Club’s Professional Golf Team will be participating in the Pro/Pro Championship at TPC Treviso Bay and the Naples Beach Club, hosted by PGA South Florida Section. Justin Smith, with Andrew Filbert from Bonita National, Ric Nayld and Jonathan Sutera, Richie Packish and Fred Fiore, Kyle Heaton with Nick Mariano from Hideout and Brian Glasco and Patrick Gorman from Bent Pine will be among some of the team participants playing at the tournament. Congratulations to Justin Smith for making the 36 hole cut at this week’s PGA Professional National Championship. Justin made a great comeback during the second round, shooting 2 under on his final nine holes to make the cut. Justin was also highlighted by the Golf Channel when he almost made a hole in one. Justin did a great job representing Bonita Bay Club in this prestigious event and we’re all very proud of him. Below is Justin’s highlight on the Golf Channel.
Justin Smith, Assistant Golf Professional at Bonita Bay Club, has qualified to play in the 2017 PGA Professional National Championship. Justin earned his spot in the field as the 1st alternate from the South Florida PGA Section. His 12th place finish in last fall’s South Florida Section PGA Championship found him tied with six others for the final two qualifying spots. Justin earned 1st alternate status by way of his finish in the playoff. The 2017 PGA Professional National Championship will be hosted by Sun River Resort in Sunriver, Oregon on June 18-21, 2017. The field will consist of the top 312 PGA professionals throughout the country competing for 20 spots to head to the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. The PNC event will be televised on The Golf Channel beginning June 18-21, 2017. You can also follow Justin for live scoring on PGA.org.

In February, Megan participated in two Charity tournaments one for the Children’s Hospital and the other to benefit paralyzed veterans.
Megan Padua teamed up with the Boston Red Sox and The Forest Country Club at the Celebrity Classic. This wonderful event raised over 1 million dollars for the Children’s Hospital. See picture below.
Pictured below is Megan’s visit to The Legacy Club in Orlando to volunteer for the Paralyzed Veterans Association Event. She was able to work with participants and help them achieve more success and enjoyment on the course.
