3-0 Record

We played amazingly well today and beat Team USA 3-0. I told all the girls to stay clam (no emotional outbursts) and not to underestimate anybody and they played focused and won in straight sets.

After a 2-0 lead we still played doubles and my partner Svenja and I won 6-3 6-1.

I finished with a 3-0 record to help us earn the bronze.
Next year we go to South Africa to try for gold again!

Thanks for all your support. ❤️

Here a picture of the jersey swap. I got USA and Ireland ???image1

Lost to the Netherlands

Sad day for Team Germany!

We lost 2-1 vs. the Netherlands.

We won the first singles convincingly and then lost the second singles 7-5 in the third.

With the score tied at 1-1 the coach decided to play a doubles team who has played together before at the German Championships and that did not include me.

And they lost in straight sets.

We will play for the bronze medal tomorrow against Team USA who lost to France 2-1.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Semifinals are set

It is official. We will take on the Netherlands tomorrow in the first semi while USA plays France.
It is likely there will be a Germany-USA final but tomorrow’s matches will be a bigger test for our singles lineup.  So far we haven’t lost one game in four singles matches. I think we will still win both tomorrow but I haven’t seen them perform under pressure yet.
I already promised to do a jersey swap with one of the Team USA players after the tournament. Can’t wait to wear that one at the club!
Sightseeing was excellent yesterday. We went to a small fishing town called Rovinj.
Charming little place outside of Umag.

Day 2 Latvia

We beat Latvia 3-0 today and lost two games in three matches, both in doubles. Our two singles girls posted consecutive 6-0 6-0 wins and then my partner Svenja and I won 6-1 6-1.

After our win our coach said he should have reminded us before the doubles match not to give them any gifts.

2 games lost. Really? I think he was joking.

After the match we watched some of the other matches finish. Team USA beat Slovenia in a tough battle, 2-1!

Tomorrow we play Ireland and everyone here says they are the nicest team. Our coach Wolly (short for Wolfgang) asked me if I wanted to play singles and I politely declined. I’m happy to be the doubles specialist on this team of studs!
